We have a new opportunity for a Software Developer to lead the development of software for our new instrumentation. This position will be located in Orlando, Florida.

Solar Light designs and manufactures precision solar simulators, meteorological instruments, sources, standards and calibration services to assess the impact of sunlight on human health and the environment. Our products are the go-to instrumentation for SPF measurement of sun protection products, monitoring UV disinfection systems, atmospheric monitoring, and solar cell testing.

Essential Functions

  • Lead internal and external software engineering functions and resources to develop and launch products that meet performance requirements and to complete within the defined development budget and project timeline.
  • Develop and implement robust methodologies for testing products during development and production, to ensure that all performance requirements are met or exceeded, including meeting regulatory and industry standards.
  • Work closely with the sales team and customers to capture their requirements input, and using feasibility study analysis, determine product specification priorities and the impact on project development.
  • Identify and implement improvements in design and production processes for new products improving quality, manufacturability, and production build and test automation.
  • Establish software development standards, processes and documentation practices, including revision/release controls, archiving and product integrity.
  • Provide support to other engineering functions and manufacturing as needed.
  • Provide support to sales teams and customers for product software as needed.
  • Perform other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned.

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Computer Engineering and ten (10) years of related experience as well as a strong math background, strong debugging and testing skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The ideal candidate will have experience:

  • developing software used to control scientific instrumentation and report empirical data and information
  • programming in C#, C++, .NET, and Visual Studio
  • developing functional applications and SDK’s
  • building modern UI’s, start-to-finish, on top of existing SDK’s and API’s
  • implementing Model-View-Controller and Publisher/Controller design pattern philosophies
  • using GitHub as source control and release control

Bonus knowledge/experience would include:

  • Experience with other development environments, such as LabVIEW, Python, and MatLab
  • Experience coding communication protocols such as USB, TCP/IP, and Ethernet
  • Experience working with Telerik UI for WinForms
  • Knowledge of Lua
  • Familiarity with Protobuff
  • Familiarity with agile project management and software development
