Season’s Greetings: Are Your Holiday Lights Safe?

LEDs haven’t just improved our daily lives.
They’ve made Christmas easier and safer!

The first Christmas trees originated in Germany in the 16th century and typically were decorated with colored paper, fruits and nuts, tinsel, and sweetmeats. But something was missing. So starting in the 1600s, lit candles were attached to the tree using wax or pins – a recipe for disaster!  Thankfully, incandescent lights came into use by the 20th century. But in cases where the tree was not kept moist enough, fire was still a risk.

Fortunately, now most stringed Christmas tree lights use LEDs. Not only are they safer, but they tend to last longer and are available in a myriad of colors. Pre-lit artificial trees are also available with the lights “built” right into the tree, making for easier set up and teardown.

However you celebrate the holidays, we hope you are surrounded by loved ones and wish you a peaceful and very safe season!
